But, of course

The advice the guy gave me at Lowe's for making the copper-to-aluminum connection was all wrong. It violates at least two electrical codes, plus it has another that's potentially a gray area of just being sloppy rather than violating anything.

So, I will shortly rip it all out and call an electrician, who will likely argue that the way I had it was just fine.

The oven is damn fine. I finally could cook french fries. At temperature. Without burning the bottoms. I even used convection, and they were a nice uniform crispy golden brown. And my big cookie sheets fit! Hurrah!

Yep. It's a damn shame that using it is sure to burn the house down because of a bad electrical hookup.

If only a professional had done the work...
